Two Partners named Top 100 Colorado Super Lawyers® for 2013

Jim Benjamin and Al Cohen were selected as members of the Top 100 Colorado Super Lawyers list which will appear in 2013 Colorado Super Lawyers Magazine as well as in the Sunday March 31st, 2013 edition of The Denver Post.

Colorado Super Lawyers® named five of eight of our firm’s attorneys as Colorado Super Lawyers© for 2013: Jim Benjamin (2006-2013), Wes Howard (2009-2013), Al Cohen (2010-2013), Jim Bain (2011-2013) and Janet Lawler McDaniel (2012-2013).

Attorneys are selected for inclusion in the list of Super Lawyers® by their peers in an extensive nomination and polling process. The list is published by Thompson Reuters in conjunction with The Denver Post.

Wes Howard spoke on insurance issues for real estate lawyers at the Colorado Bar Association’s Real Estate Symposium and spoke during a candlelight vigil at the Colorado Sikh Gurudwara (temple)

Wes Howard made two presentations recently. In July, he presented the topic liability insurance issues for real estate lawyers at the Colorado Bar Association’s Real Estate Symposium. The Symposium is a three-day annual continuing legal education event presented by the Real Estate Section of the Colorado Bar Association and attended by real estate attorneys from around the State.

In August, Wes spoke at a candlelight vigil held at the Colorado Sikh Gurudwara (temple) on “Resolve” in memory of the Milwaukee Sikh Gurudwara shooting victims and their families. Wes has represented the Gurudwara and many of its members in a variety of business and litigation matters over the course of many years.

Janet McDaniel and Al Cohen both named to Chambers USA rankings again for 2012

Al Cohen and Janet Lawler McDaniel are two of the seven Colorado lawyers listed in “Band 1” of the Real Estate: Construction rankings by Chambers USA for 2012. Regarding Al, Chambers wrote that he is “[k]nown for his common-sense approach to solving problems” and “is described as a forceful advocate with excellent analytical abilities.” Janet, Chambers noted, with emphasis, is “credited for being “direct, very knowledgeable and knowing technical construction as well as anybody." She also is “highly regarded for her‘ innate understanding of the construction process.’

Janet has been listed by Chambers USA since 2005 and Al has been listed since 2009.

Chambers publishes a guide to lawyers in the United States, and around the world, undertaking extensive research from attorneys and clients to identify top lawyers by geographic location and practice specialty. Jim Benjamin began his term as President of the Denver Bar Association on June 5, 2012. He has been on the DBA Board of Trustees and one of three members of the Executive Council since 2010.

Jim and Wes Howard also both serve on the Colorado Bar Association’s Board of Governors. The Board of Governors is the CBA’s governing body. At the May 2012 meeting of the Board of Governors, the Board adopted the Principles of Professionalism as a statewide statement of goals by which lawyers should aspire to practice. Jim was a primary drafter of the Principles.

Firm Honored as a Top Small Business of the West

The Firm recently was named a 2012 Top 300 Small Business of the West by Business Leader. Rankings are based on financial performance, business achievement and community involvement. Business Leader’s mission is to serve business executives and decisions makers. It selects winners from nominations it receives. The Firm was recognized at the Small Business Awards Dinner on June 21, 2012 at Columbine Country Club. Wes Howard represented the Firm at the dinner.

The Firm was selected to represent a New York investment company regarding the assets it obtained from a failed Colorado bank

In 2012, the Firm was interviewed and selected by a major New York real estate investment company to handle all of their assets obtained from a failed Colorado bank. The selection was based, not only on the reputation of the Firm, but also on the Firm’s billing rates, which would be savings to the investment company over the billing rates at other Colorado firms interviewed.

Janet Lawler McDaniel spoke twice this Spring on construction topics

On May 9, 2012, Janet Lawler McDaniel participated in a Roundtable discussion at The Associated General Contractors of America’s AEC Collaboration Conference, which was held in Denver. The Roundtable discussion was about multi-party Integrated Project Delivery contracts and the other participant in the discussion was Will Lichtig, Vice-President at Boldt Construction,

On April 27, 2012, Janet Lawler McDaniel co-presented the third class in a four-class series on BIM through the Associated General Contractors (“AGC”) of Colorado. The AGC of Colorado is a professional organization representing members of the commercial building industry in Colorado. Jim Benjamin and Beth Mankamyer to mentor a third-year law student

Jim Benjamin and Beth Mankamyer have volunteered to mentor a third year law student from the University of Colorado’s Law School. Tony Owens is an outstanding young man interning during the Summer as a law clerk for the Honorable Judge Robert M. Russell of the Colorado Court of Appeals.

Jim Benjamin was a Co-Chair of the Barrister’s Ball

Jim Benjamin served as a Co-Chair of the Barrister’s Ball, held on May 5, 2012 at the Hyatt Grand Hotel in Denver. The Ball benefits Metro Volunteer Lawyers and was a huge success. This year’s theme was “Dancing with the Bar Stars” and featured past Bar Association Presidents competing. The competition dancers raised over $26,000 themselves and the dinner raised over $95,000.
